My cousin's results came back and the PET scan was clear. Good news. They are doing another scope sometime soon, I don't know when, though.

Ric's appointment with the Rad Onc yesterday went well. They did some blood work to check his thyroid. Dr. M thinks the radiation may have knocked his thyroid out of whack so his checking on that. We know his protein levels are still going to be in the tank, but hopefully there won't be any surprised.

Dr. M wants him to be eating 3-4,000 calories per day. That is a lot! This is because, fully clothed, wearing his work books, he weighed 128. Take off four pounds for the clothes and shoes and it looks like he lost a little. He is eating, I can promise that, the problem is, he gets tired long before he finishes a meal.

His salivary glands are beginning to stir, at least a little bit, but not enough that it makes it easy for him to chew or swallow. There are a bunch of little issues from the radiation that won't be resolved any time soon.

The doctor was a bit surprised that he hasn't bounced back yet, because he was so healthy before. It was just the huge weight loss and then not being able to eat. We have picked up a different type of protein shake with more calories to see if we can't jump start his metabolism a little more.

And, more good news, Chick and her friend made the colorguard team at the high school, so next year, they will both be having some fun with this activity. They had a great time yesterday at the try-outs and because the team posted their results and that was the quickest way to find out if they had made it, I brought her friend home with us for dinner. That required some fast acting on my part when we got home because her friend is Muslim and can't eat pork. Guess what we were having for dinner? So we had pork and I had a couple of small steaks, so she had that. Then we drove back over to the high school and I waited with the windows rolled down, cause it was so nice last night, and they were both squealing like stuck pigs (probably not a great reference for a Muslim) but anyway, they both came running and jumping and squealing My ears will never be the same.

Yay for a clear scan. Yay that Ric's appt went okay, although it sounds like the weight thing needs some work. Digestive enzymes maybe? And super duper YAY for colorguard! That rocks.
